Why a Christian Education

The promise of eternal life through a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ gives the faculty and staff at Valley Lutheran School a hope to share with our students. Teaching each subject from a Biblical worldview trains our students to filter every subject through the lens of Scripture. Academics are extremely important at Valley, but just as important is for each of our students to have a strong faith that will lead and guide them. Hear from our administration team as to why they have dedicated their careers to ensuring a quality, Christian education for this generation.

Call our Director of Admissions, April Schriever, TODAY to set up your student’s Educational Success Consultation to learn more about the Valley difference! You can reach her at 319-266-4565.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”  Ephesians 6:4

Taking God’s inspired Word seriously, my wife Debbie and I prayerfully considered what to do for our own three children in regards to sending them to school. We quickly realized that our children often spent more of their awake time at school than with us at home. This meant that if we were to bring our children “up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord,” we needed to seriously consider homeschooling or a Christ-centered school. Due to our Calling to teach and to partner with other parents desiring a Christian education for their children, we decided to enroll them in Lutheran schools Preschool through Grade 12.

We never regretted our decision. Even having a special needs son, Lutheran Christian schools were the very best environment for our students to receive their education. We appreciated having our children learning and growing in an environment that shared Christ’s love and reinforced the very same Biblical principles we were teaching at home.

I have seen over and over again how children thrive in an environment that is Christ-centered. When partnered with a quality education, it is the means by which we are able to teach God’s truths and His grace.

Rev. Henry G. Pahlkotter, II

Early in my teaching career, I found myself in a public school just shy of being considered inner-city Detroit. At this school, I encountered so many physical and social needs within my students and their families. I struggled each and every day with how to best help and care for them.

I prayed multiple times a day for several of them, but I lacked the permission to share with them the ONE who could be of help, Jesus Christ. At the conclusion of that year, I vowed to teach at a Christian school where I would have that permission to actively share my faith and have the ability to weave it into everything that I taught.

Strong academic skills and Christian character will allow our young people to be successful during their time here at Valley Lutheran School and far beyond. When you schedule an Educational Success Consultation with me and the team, we’ll be able to hear about the hopes and dreams you have for your child. we’ll then take the opportunity to explain the lifetime of difference that an education, rooted in Biblical Truth, will make for your son or daughter.

Not only have I seen this difference in the students I’ve taught, but I’ve watched it play out in the lives of my own three children, including my oldest, a 2017 graduate of Valley Lutheran as well as my second oldest, a 2023 graduate of Valley. I look forward to meeting with you soon and sharing with you all that Valley has to offer!

Christian education is the beautiful harmonizing of God’s creatures learning about God’s creation. When we acknowledge that we have a Creator, the world becomes a place of wonder and discovery. Without Christ as the foundation of an education, our learning is in service to ourselves rather than others.

I was raised by parents who valued Christian Lutheran Education. They sacrificed a lot to ensure my three brothers and I would have the opportunity to attend a Lutheran school. Their example started me on the path to becoming a Lutheran School Teacher. Lutheran schools do more than just educate, they also plant, water, and nurture seeds of faith.

Knowing what my children will be getting at a Lutheran school, how could I not send them? I know they will be taught, disciplined, guided, and loved with the love of Christ. Sending my kids to a Lutheran School is a choice I will never regret.
